Abalone Chowder

  1. Fry bacon until lightly browned, then drain all but about 2 tablespoons of the bacon drippings from the pan. To the bacon add the abalone, potato, onion, and garlic; sauté until these ingredients are golden brown.
  2. Add the hot water, cover, and simmer until abalone and potato are tender. Add remaining ingredients and stir until well blended. Serve piping hot.

    Serves 5 or 6
