Bush Brownie Cake

An Australian Recipe

From the Kitchen of:  Myrna Apperly

Pannikins and camp ovens are available from army disposal and camping stores. Of course this recipe can also be made in a regular oven and large cake tin. Bake at 300 degrees for an hour or two. (A pannikin equals a large tea or coffee mug)

  • Mix together all the ingredients, adding enough water to make a paste.
  • Grease a camp oven*(a large cast iron pot with lid and handles), pour in the mixture and sprinkle with sugar. Put on the lid, place the pot on a firm bed of hot coals in a hole in the ground dug to fit the camp oven easily. Cook for 1 3/4 hours. Serve warm, cut in slices, with lots of butter.
